Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Shane, and I founded Cornerstone Tax & Books to provide clear, ethical, and approachable tax and bookkeeping services for individuals and small businesses. I bring a combination of professional expertise, personal values, and hands-on experience to every client engagement.

I grew up on a dairy in Southern California and moved to Idaho eight years ago. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the Treasure Valley’s landscape, lifestyle, and sense of community. I’m an Eagle Scout and have been actively involved in church ministries throughout my life. My faith informs both my approach to business and my dedication to serving clients with transparency, integrity, and respect.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family — my wife, our son, and three dogs — as well as managing our small hobby farm. We love camping, fishing, and exploring Idaho’s natural beauty together. I value balancing professional dedication with family, faith, and personal passions.

Before starting Cornerstone, I worked in the powersports and equipment industries as a service advisor and service manager for over 15 years. Paying attention to every detail was essential — detailed invoices created solid records that could be reviewed later without question. Doing things right the first time avoided costly mistakes and built trust. One of the keys to repeat customers was that if I didn’t know the answer, I always knew where to find it, and I never left a customer guessing. I bring this same level of care and attention to bookkeeping and tax preparation clients.

I’ve been preparing taxes for over 20 years across multiple states, helping friends and family navigate filings accurately and with confidence. This led to a natural curiosity about the profession and pursuing certification. Professionally, I hold IRS VITA certification, am pursuing Enrolled Agent (EA) status, and am working toward a Master’s degree in Accounting. This combination of hands-on experience and formal education ensures I can provide knowledgeable, reliable service while keeping it personal and approachable.
